In 1946, after leaving military service, Harry Goldman, Jr. decided there was an opportunity for a farm equipment store in the vicinity of Waterproof, LA.  His decision was prompted by the fact that a large number of mules were still in use in the production of cotton.  Also, in those days, an implement store could be started with relatively small capital.

A partnership agreement was drawn up between Harry Goldman, Jr. and his cousin, G. C. Goldman, III, establishing Goldman Equipment Company.  Two acres of land were purchased from the G. C. Goldman estate on US Highway 65 and construction was started on a 50 x 100 foot steel building.  A dealer franchise was signed with Allis Chalmers in January of 1947.  Because Allis Chalmers was involved in a lengthy strike with its labor union, very little volume was done the first year.  To help stay in business, soybeans, then new to the area, were bought and shipped in sacks to local cotton oil mills.  Later, an elevator was built to handle bulk soybeans and other grain crops.

Soybean acreage continued to increase and with it came the opportunity to sell self-propelled combines.  Massey Harris, later Massey Ferguson, had the lead in the market for these machines, which prompted an interest in seeking this franchise.  At this time, Allis Chalmers did not have in its plans a machine suitable to local needs.  In 1950, a contract was assigned with Massey Harris.

With the death of his father, G. C. Goldman became heavily involved in farming.  Consequently, Harry Goldman, Jr. bought his partner's interest in the partnership in 1951.

Neither the Allis Chalmers nor the Massey Harris tractors could compete well with the competition.  To have a successful farm equipment business, it became apparent a better tractor line was essential.  In 1953, the John Deere franchise was secured and, at the same time, the Allis Chalmers and Massey Harris accounts were terminated.

During the late 50s, US Highway 65 was relocated and the store was no longer on the main road.  Because of this, and the fact that the business had outgrown its present location, it was decided to move the business to the new highway and into a larger building, which was built in 1964.

In 1965, Goldman Equipment Company was incorporated.

A "new" Goldman Equipment Company was incorporated in March of 1983 with Mac Hazlip coming in as general manager and stockholder.  In February of 1984, Goldman Equipment Company bought the service center in Newellton, LA from Loe Equipment Company.  Then in November of 1992, Goldman Equipment Company bought the dealership in Tallulah, LA from Loe Equipment Company.  And, in November of 1997, Goldman Equipment Company purchased the dealership in Lake Providence, LA from Bayou Macon Equipment Company.

In February of 2000, Goldman Equipment Company established a subsidiary company, Goldman Lawn & Tractor, Inc.  This new company purchased Columbia Equipment Company in Bossier City, LA, and Agline, Inc. in Natchitoches, LA.
